Day 1, Tuesday - 09/20/2011

Well, here we are in Connecticut - but not without incident. First thing this morning, before hooking up the camper, Mike ran out to pick up ice (and Dunkin Donuts coffee - big surprise). Anyway, somehow he hit a deer with his truckon the way back to the camper - no damage to him or the truck, but the deer didn't fare as well, unfortunately.  Not a good way to start the day, for sure.

Mike's perspective:  I knew something would go wrong, I knew there was no way we were going to get through this day without something bad happening.

Nan's perspective:  We're so lucky you and the truck are OK.  We could have been facing, at the least, serious truck damage preventing us from leaving today.  That's out of the way, so now we know the rest of the day will go great.

(See why we get along so well???)

Anyway, the rest of the trip went just fine.  Decided to take I-495 to the MASS pike, and that might  not have been a great idea - the bridges were horrendous (!) - expected to see everything we own on the floor of the camper, but looks like we didn't lose a thing.

Dropped the camper at HiWay Campers for repairs/adjustments, (already scheduled - not due to the bridges) and found a nice little hotel to lounge in until tomorrow morning.  Then we're back on the road - headed to Greentown, PA, home of the Promised Land State Park (please don't say it).

This would make a good testimonial for a "Built Ford Tough" Truck commercial. Maine deer are no match for a Ford Truck". I'm sure that deer thought..."Damn...It had to be a Ford!!!!"
