Day 2, Wednesday 09/21/2011

Hallelujah - we made it to the Promised Land.  NO, not that one, the Promised Land State Park in PA.

Slept in at Plainfield, CT, last night, knowing our camper wouldn't be ready to pick up until late morning.  Turned out it was 1pm before we hit the road.  We took Rt 66 through part of CT, which took us through some really pretty towns.  Don't know how many Dunkin Donuts we passed that we couldn't stop at because there was no place to turn around.  Mike said he's going to have to wean himself off it.  Yup.  Then it was back on the highway - I-691 to I-84.  I-84 was miserable!  Not sure which decade they last paved that road.  What a nightmare!  The traffic wasn't much better.  But things settled down after Danbury and Port Jervis, so I could breathe again.  And Mike relaxed enough to snack on some spice drops.  Travelled over some nice rolling hills in PA, until we found the exit to the campground.  I think we drove 20 miles into the woods (OK, maybe not 20) but at times I felt like we'd never find our way out.  As it turned out, the Park Ranger saw us drive in, so he followed us to the Park Office, and it's a good thing, cause the office was closed, so he was able to help a lot.  We just need to stay until 9am tomorrow so that we can check out when someone's there.  It's really a beautiful area.  The mosquitoes are on steroids, so we got the camper settled as quick as we could, and came inside.  Now we're looking forward to a nice quiet evening, and time to take a walk around before we leave tomorrow (I KNOW I packed that bug spray somewhere  - now where did I put it???)
