Day 14,  Monday 10/03/2011

Today we visited the museum and memorial for the victims of the Edward Murrah Federal Bldg bombing in April 1995.  It doesn't seem possible it's been 16 years.  The museum was a complete timeline of the tragedy, from the perspective of victims, family members, rescuers and others.  The memorial was beautifully done - a very moving reminder of that senseless, tragic act of terrorism, and of all the people it impacted.

Yesterday, our campground host recommended that we take the water taxi tour of the "Brickyard" section of Oklahoma City, so we did that this afternoon.  The renovation of that part of the city has been going on for about 20 years, with new restaurants, boutiques, etc., and the water taxi tour in a flat bottom boat took us through the canals that were built where the old railroad system used to travel.  Very pretty, and interesting, too.  We agreed that Oklahoma City is definitely a place we'd like to spend more time in the future. But for now, it's off to Amarillo, TX tomorrow.

Wow, I can only imagine how moving that tour of the Murrah Federal Building Memorial must have been. When my Brother, David (the Marine)was in NYC for Fleet Week some years ago, he walked off on his own to go see where the Twin Towers were. One of the construction workers (or a foreman or something)saw him there in his class A dress uniform and gave him a personal walking tour of ground zero. He said it was the most moving thing he had ever done or seen.
