Well, as I mentioned in my last post, we went to another area of the Everglades so that we could take an airboat ride - and did we ever! It was creepy, as expected, riding though the swamp, then when we got into the more open water/grassy area, our guide decided to have a little fun with us and started cutting cookies with the air boat. He'd speed up, then crank the wheel, and the boat (and us) spun around making waves and scaring the heck out of me. But it was fun, I have to admit!
After we recovered from that, we took a walk on the Big Cypress Boardwalk (a one-mile nature walk built in the swamp). It was pretty interesting and VERY warm and humid, but fun. After all the alligators we saw yesterday, we saw what must be the grand-daddy of them all. That one really freaked me out. He was huge! This is a picture of him across the water about 30 feet away on maximum zoom. He was at least 4' around his middle, and about 8'-10' from snout to tail end. HUGE! That was a good way to end the day.
We laughed when we saw this road sign. Florida has its own headaches with panthers, just as Maine does with moose. But we stopped laughing when we saw a panther slinking behind a camper on the edge of the field as we were driving out of the campground. Ughhhhhh.....
