Arrived at the Patrick AFB, FL, campground yesterday. It's located near Cocoa Beach, and across the road along the front of the base are miles of beautiful beach on the Atlantic Ocean. What a beautiful area; but, as Mike said, this is the quietest base he's ever seen. After seeing how busy Plattsburgh and Brunswick were, it's hard to imagine that Patrick is any more necessary in the big scheme of things. But here it is, and we're glad we got a chance to stay for a couple of days.
We went north to the Kennedy Space Center, thinking we could at least go into the visitor center and see some displays, etc., but tickets run anywhere from $50 to $150 per person, depending on how much you want to see, and I just couldn't justify that. Not to mention the fact that, if this were an amusement park, I could see why they would charge such prices, but the Kennedy Space Center was built and run with our tax dollars, so I just don't understand it. (Am I getting crabby or what!)
We did enjoy checking out Cocoa Beach and the pier. Beautiful day for it. Tomorrow, we'll be heading to NAS Jacksonville for a few days.
