Washington State

September 27, 2013

Arrived at Fairchild AFB in Spokane, WA, and parked in a nice site at the FAMCAMP.  We spent one night in the hotel on base, as the wind was gusting at 60mph and we wanted to be able to close the slides to prevent damage to the awnings (besides, it was scary).  Visited the Grand Coulee Dam which was pretty impressive; otherwise, not much of note here.

Traveled to the FAMCAMP at Joint Base Lewis/McChord, WA, near Seattle/Tacoma.  We had a nice site, and were glad to have it as a home base.

We visited the Seattle Space Needle, and the historic Public Market as well.  Did LOTS of walking that day, but it was a beautiful day, and we really enjoyed it.

We were really looking forward to seeing Mt Ranier National Park and Mt St Helens NP, but we couldn't because of the government shutdown.  But we did find a way to see Mt. Ranier from a distance, and saw some other stunning scenery along the way.

Look closely and you can see the Seattle skyline in the center of the photo.
