New Orleans, LA

On our way to New Orleans, we spent a night a Barksdale AFB, LA.  Mike hadn't been there for many years, and I never had, so we made a point to add it to the trip

View from the ferry across the Mississippi on our way to the French Quarter.

New Orleans skyline.

St Louis Cathedral overlooking Jackson Square in the French Quarter.

Impromptu parades spring up all over the city (this one on Bourbon Street) leading up the "Fat Tuesday".

Some have more fun throwing the beads than walking in the parade.

                                                            Everyone wanted their say.

There are some huge barges on the Mississippi.

Some of the old homes were built very narrow, but very long from front to back..

Fats Domino's former home in the 9th Ward.

Still a lot of cleaning up to do in the 9th Ward.

Brad Pitt's organization and others have funded the building of a lot
of new homes.  They're built to be more hurricane resistant.

Some odd things regarding its location.  For instance, the West Bank section is actually on the east side of the river; and the sign above, showing that two streets, each going south, actually cross each other at one point in the city

We had a nice campsite at NAS JRB New Orleans.  We'd stay there again if in the area.  (No flooding this time!)
