Day 19, Sunday 10/20/2011
WooHoo!! We're in Vegas! Wow what a trip. But, as excited as we are about being here, we're also a little sad that the trip is over. All in all, it's really been a fun 3 weeks. We spent Saturday night in Flagstaff as planned. Sometime during the night our propane tank gave out, so around 5am Mike went outside to change tanks. Meanwhile, we were freezing! The temp was 37 when I went to bed, and was 36 when we finally got up around 7am. There was no reason to think it was going to warm up for the next night, so we decided much as we loved it, we'd leave Flagstaff in our rearview mirror. And we did love it- we'd like to see it again in warmer weather. But since we left the east coast to be warm, Las Vegas looked a whole lot better to us. The weather's been in the high 70's since we arrived, and is scheduled to be in the 90's on Thursday. Nights are still cool, but nowhere near 30's!
The rest of the trip through the mountains in AZ was beautiful, then pretty hohum until we neared the Hoover Dam area. Yikes! Can't wait to go back down there without the camper on. It is just unbelievably beautiful. I cannot imagine anyone carving highways out of the mountains the way they did. But I'm glad they did, so that we can get such beautiful views. I wasn't able to get many pictures of that area, but I'll be sure to share some when we make the trip back.
Arrived at the campground Sunday. It's really nice, and the people in the office couldn't be any nicer. We're very happy with our site, it's a corner lot with short, fat palm trees to give us some privacy. They give us shade from the morning sun, and the trees on the lot next to us (about 50 feet away) shade the late afternoon sun. We had to take the camper to a local repair shop today to fix the water problem we had on the way out, so we got a nice room at Nellis AFB - they expect to have it repaired tomorrow. Meanwhile, we've traveled all over the city, and it's a nice one. Took a ride down through the strip yesterday, but we want to go back at night once we finally get settled in. Went in our first casino this afternoon (to buy Dunkin Donuts K-cups - OMG!). It was a smaller casino off the strip, but I was pleasantly surprised how clean (and secure) it was. It was also pretty quiet - mostly old farts like us. Anyway, hope you've enjoyed our trip too. I'll keep blogging as long as there's something interesting to write about. Our new address is: Desert Eagle RV Park, Attn: Mike/me, 4907 Fam Camp Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89115. Till next time........
