Day 17/18, Friday/Saturday 10/07-08/2011
Yesterday was most definitely a down day. It rained all day, and Mike picked up a cold the day before, so we went out to the mall for a little while just to get out, but spent the rest of the day at the camper. I got alot of paperwork done, read a book, etc. Mike played a lot of computer solitaire. Got to bed early, and got a good night's rest.
This morning we left Alburquerque and headed to Flagstaff, AZ. It was a beautiful ride, at least as we got closer to Flagstaff. About 30 miles out, there were actual pines trees (!) and they became a forest. Suddenly, this beautiful snow capped mountain appeared (Humphry's Peak, 12,633 ft). And it was in our view right through the ride to Flagstaff. This has to be one of the prettiest small cities I've ever seen. It doesn't hurt that everywhere you look you see Humphrey's Peak in the background. But it's also modern, clean, etc. I could definitely spend some time here. We're camping at the Pine View Campground on the grounds of the Arizona Army National Guard base just outside of Flagstaff. The hosts are very nice, and it's a nice small campground, with only about 6 other campers. It's VERY cold here (expect 28-30 tonight, so we have to turn off the outside water and unhook our hose until the freeze lifts around 8am tomorrow). Just a little inconvenient, but we have plenty of heat and the fireplace to keep us warm, so that won't be a problem. We don't have any plans for tomorrow, but I don't think we'll have any problem finding something fun to do.
Hope you enjoy the pictures. Please keep in mind that they were taken through the window of a moving vehicle, but I really wanted to share this beautiful place with you.
