Mackinac Island and Mackinac Bridge

July 14/15 2013

Another gorgeous day yesterday.  We took advantage of the weather to take the ferry ride from Mackinaw City to Mackinac Island.  The shuttle picked us up at the campground, so we didn't have to worry about traffic/parking, etc..  There are no motorized vehicles allowed on the island (they have 1 police cruiser, 1 ambulance, and 2 fire trucks).  The island is about 3 miles in diameter, and in the summer it's filled with horses and bicycles (and LOTS of tourists).  We took a horse and carriage ride all around the island to see all the sights, and it's beautiful.  Flowers everywhere, lots of shops and restaurants, etc..  Fun just to watch people so far out of their element (that includes us!).  Arch rock was spectacular.

Lots of bikes and horses

High speed ferry (we took the slow one!)

Our carriage driver dropped us off so we could walk the rest of the way back down to the dock and enjoy the view.

Our "slower" ferry - still not very slow!

Last night we decided to cross the Mackinac Bridge into the Upper Peninsula to go to the casino.  Anyone who knows us knows we don't go to gamble - just for the food.  I have to say, they were both disappointing.  But the bridge was awesome!

Today was a catch up (laundry) day, but I managed to work in some pool time.  Tomorrow we're off to Whitefish Hill Campground in Rapid River, MI.  We plan to spend a couple of days there before moving on to Wisconsin.
