Little Big Horn National Monument and Big Horn Mountains

August 17/18 2013

While staying at the KOA in Sheridan, WY, we visited the Little Big Horn National Monument, the site of Custer's "last stand", battlefields, and a Visitor Center with a very nice display of artifacts, pictures, uniforms, etc.  When we arrived, we took a bus tour of the battlefields and monument.  It was a Native American bus company, and the tour was narrated by a Native American, so it was very interesting.  It's amazing how much information was recorded (writings, interviews, legends?) from a war so long ago.

The next day we toured the Big Horn mountains.  It was a beautiful drive, and helped get us (me) somewhat ready for the twisty, winding roads at high altitudes.  At one point we were over 9,000', but to put it in perspective, we'll be at 16,000-17,000' in Colorado.
