Grand Teton National Park/Jackson, WY

September 13, 2013

Yesterday we drove to Victor, ID. We're here because we couldn't find a campground site in Jackson.   But it's worked out really well.  It's a nice, small campground; friendly people, small town, and we like it.

Meanwhile, we're just this side of the Tetons, so today we took a drive over Teton Pass (WOW) then
took a tour through Jackson, checked out Jackson Hole, and drove the loop around the Grand Teton National Park.  When we got home, we went to a brew-pub in town, and had an awesome dinner.

FYI:  Having always been confused about Tetons, Jackson, and Jackson Hole, I asked the question.  I was told that Jackson Hole is the valley, and Jackson and the Tetons are in it.  Of course, it doesn't help that the ski resort is called Jackson Hole, but I feel a little more educated.

Views from Teton Pass (elev 8,400').

We took a ride around the town of Jackson, but it was so crowded and there was so much traffic, there really wasn't a good opportunity to take any pictures.  Let's just say it's definitely a tourist town.

Jackson Hole Ski Resort is quite a place.  I can only imagine it in the winter.  It must be gorgeous.  We had planned to take the arial tram ride to the top of the mountain, but it was covered in clouds, so we wouldn't have been able to see anything from the top.

I know it's a parking lot, but the view is spectacular.  Distant mountains all around.  And flat, flat, flat.

We started our tour of the Grand Teton National Park in the afternoon.  It was a sunny day, but the clouds covered most of the mountain tops, so I wasn't able to get the pictures I'd hoped.

As the day went on, the clouds got darker and darker, but I don't think even that can hide the beauty.
