Yellowstone Day 2

These are just a few of the geysers and hot springs in the Upper Loop Basin.  There are 10,000 hot springs throughout the park (though most of them are very small), so there's no limit to the colors and shapes you may see.  They're also apt to change colors at any time, as we've witnessed when comparing pictures to what we actually saw that day.  Since there's a lot of steam in the area, and it was an 80 degree day, and it was a 3.5 mile walk along the boardwalk, we were pretty tired.  But it was worth every step.

Some of the areas around the geysers and hot springs are very hot, so you have to be careful to stay on the boardwalk.
Notice how the minerals that spew from the geysers have impacted the nearby trees.
Minerals from the geysers and hotspots  run into the Firehole River.

The Grotto

Morning Glory

And of course, Old Faithful......

And on the way home, more elk.....
