August 2-3 2013
Arrived at the KOA campground in Sioux Falls, SD, yesterday, Friday, 2 Aug 2013. It was a quick trip from Offutt AFB, but we hit some rain along the way. By the time we arrived, it had started to clear, though. It's a nice campground; unfortunately, it's VERY close to the highway, so the road noise is constant. Not as bad at night as expected (thanks to the AC), but it's not very relaxing sitting outside in the evening. But the weather has been good.
Today we drove to "the Falls" that gave the city its name. It's a very pretty area - lots of walking paths, etc. and we took a trolley ride through downtown (which is very small). They're doing a lot of work to make it a nice area. Based on the downtown, we thought the city was small, but as we traveled around more, it was obvious that there's a lot more to it than we thought.
Tomorrow we're off to an RV resort in Chamberlain, SD. We'll be stopping there for a couple of days on our way to the Black Hills area of South Dakota. We have reservations for a week at the Ellsworth AFB FAMCAMP near Rapid City, SD. That should give us plenty of time to check out some beautiful sights. Mike has been wanting to visit Sturgis, SD, to see where they hold Bike Week every year. We weren't planning to be there during Bike Week, but of course that's exactly what's happened. Should be very interesting, to say the least!
